Inspiration to draw frogs actually came about bcause my adopted Thai autistic brother has a frog addiction. In 2008 I wrote a short diary entry about his wisdom and his frog fetish. The entry needed an illustration, and so appeared the first frog.
Frogs are often looked upon as helpless sad little creatures but as I drew these frogs, they became less and less blue. Thus, the title.
Interestingly enough, there is in fact, a very blue frog. The South American Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates Azureus), is a brighter and deeper hue of blue than Parker ink. It is a truly beautiful frog and worth looking up a photograph of one on the web. Incidently, there is also a near extinct golden coloured frog.
These drawings are done from photographs with a touch of artistic license – done mostly in the backgrounds.
For those interested, the frog species and common names are given on the labels by each print.
